Review of 'How To Write A Great Children's Book'

When I'm at public events there is always someone who wants to be a children's author and they ask me for advice. I love  talking to these potential authors and always wish I had more time to talk with them. There are a lot of books about how to write for children and it's difficult to know which one is the best for you. I've been searching online for a while to find ebooks about writing for children. I've found two that I like the look of. I've bought them both and I've just finished reading the first one.

It's called 'How To Write A Great Children's Book' by Robyn Opie. It's 171 pages long and comes with 5 bonus ebooks. Robyn Opie is the author of over 75 published books so she knows what she's talking about. I have read 'how to' books before by people that haven't been published.

I really liked this book and I learnt quite a few new things that I am going to put into practise. Robyn's tone is friendly and non-technical. You can tell that she's learnt a lot along her writing journey. She's honest about how she writes and her opinion differs a lot from other expert books I've read. She gives the best description of 'show, don't tell' that I have ever come across. This is such an important concept in creative writing and makes a big difference in your success as an author.

The bonuses that come with this book make the purchase price good value. I won't give you all the details here as there is a lot of information on Robyn's sales page. There is also a lot of free info on Robyn's website for children's writers.

If you are just starting out on your writing career, or if you are like me and want to refresh your training, then I recommend this book. Have a look at the sales page and decide if it's for you.

I'll let you know what I think of the other ebook when I've finished reading it.

Good luck with your writing -you can do it!
